Characterization of the dietary and sociodemographic profile of a group of Colombian vegetarian women in childbearing age during the period 2021-2022

ABSTRACT Objective To determine the dietary and sociodemographic profile of vegetarian women childbearing age (18 49 years) from Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Area in 2021-2022 Methods Through an online survey, 232 vegan to were surveyed regarding their characteristics, amount time following this eating pattern and, type reason for choosing vegetarianism, physical activity, use nutritional supplements frequency consumption certain food groups. Descriptive analyses, association variables with vegetarianism multinomial regression models performed. Results A total surveyed: 60.8% between 18 30 years belonged mainly middle class. According diet, 68.1% used ovo-lacto-vegetarian 18.1% vegan, 9.0% lacto-vegetarian 4.8% ovo-vegetarian. Among factors evaluated potential relationship different types it is highlighted that vitamin B12 supplementation presents a statistically significant when using veganism as comparison category. Conclusion results, among young female adults style predominates, without differences educational level, adequate levels activity most population; there was higher prevalence ovo-lacto-vegetarianism. Vitamin significantly population, indicating ovo-lacto ovo-vegetarian populations may be at high risk deficiency.
